Originating in Japan, Manga magazines have quickly spread across the world to dozens of countries and translated into many languages. In fact, manga became so popular in some areas, that local authors started publishing their own manga for the local audience. In the United States notable manga magazines include Shonen Jump, Shojo Beat, RumblePakk, SakuraPakk, and Yen Plus.
Shonen Jump and its sister magazine Shojo Beat are both published by the American company VIZ Media, with the first magazine being for boys and the latter being for girls. Both of these magazines stem from the original influence of the popular manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump, released by Shueisha. Shonen Jump and Shojo Beat have combined to publish about 30 total manga series, half of which are still ongoing. Additionally, both official websites of the magazines offer users to enjoy manga online, as well as other cool features such as downloads, games and more. Some notable manga published in Shonen Jump includes Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, Naruto, Yu-Gu-Oh!, Bleach and many more.
The newly established Yen Plus is an American monthly anthology magazine of Japanese manga, Korean manhwa, and Original English-language manga (OEL manga) published by Yen Press, which is headquartered in New York City. The first issue was released on July 29, 2008 with five manga titles originally published by Gangan Comics, four manhwa titles, and two OEL manga titles. Yen Plus contains over 450 pages per issue, and reads both right-to-left for manga titles, and left-to-right for manhwa and OEL manga titles; with each issue having two covers. Yen Plus is one of the few magazines that finally features some local English-based manga of the United States. Sakura Pakk is a shojo manga magazine, with a female-oriented manga series showcasing alternative side of femininity. Released bi-monthly, Sakura Pakk features 160 pages of original manga content from the best new artists from all over the world.
